Work
What we have built: two live web tools, two offline tools for production teams that are not publicly released, a site rebuilt for a client, and a template shop.
This site, quiethoursstudio.co, is the studio’s home. CalcThat and Lull each live on their own domain.
For everyday life
Web tool
CalcThat, a carbon footprint calculator
Open CalcThat↗
The problem
A carbon footprint number is only useful if you can see where it came from. Calculators often give a single figure with no way to check it.
What we built
A free calculator with two modes, a household’s yearly footprint or a single trip, for the US, EU, UK, Canada and Australia. Alongside it, 15 guides on climate, energy, transport, food and consumption, and a methodology page.
How it’s built
Static HTML, CSS and JavaScript; all calculation runs in the browser. Every emission factor is tagged as primary, secondary or assumed evidence and listed row for row on the methodology page with its source.
Web tool
Lull, a sleep calculator
Open Lull↗
The problem
Most sleep advice stops at “get seven to nine hours”. It doesn’t say what time to go to bed tonight if you have to be up at 6:30. Sleep runs in cycles of about 90 minutes, so planning around them means doing the arithmetic yourself.
What we built
A free calculator. Enter a wake-up time, a bedtime or a nap goal and get times built around whole 90-minute cycles, with presets by age group. Behind it sit more than a dozen guides on sleep cycles, sleep debt, insomnia, jet lag and more, each written from primary sources such as the CDC, the NIH and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and linked in full.
How it’s built
Plain static HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no framework, so pages load fast. The calculator runs in the browser, with no accounts or sign-ups, in a dark theme.
For work
Offline tool
OEE and utilisation analyzer
An offline analyzer for production teams. It reads a machine-level production export and shows OEE, TEEP and utilisation by machine and month, breaks the losses out, and lets you compare scenarios against a reference. It is a single HTML file that opens in the browser, with nothing to install.
Built for production teams. Not publicly released.
Offline tool
Production capacity planner
An offline planner for injection-moulding lines. It shows TEEP and utilisation per line, every article and its cavities on every line, the operators needed each month, and where lines are overloaded or idle, and lets you move articles between lines to compare planning scenarios.
Built for production teams. Not publicly released.
Client website
A product catalog and enquiry site for a B2B supplier
The problem
A supplier of eco-friendly tableware sells to cafés, caterers and shops. Its old WordPress site loaded slowly, sometimes stuck on a “Loading” screen, showed a raw server error on its terms page, and used one page title for the whole site, so search engines had little to go on. Changing a product meant editing several pages by hand.
What we built
A new site of 14 pages: home, about, the product catalog with a page per product, certificates, terms and contact. Buyers add products to a quote list and send it with the contact form, which goes straight to the sales mailbox. We also redesigned the printed product catalog so the site and the brochure match.
How it’s built
Plain static HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with no WordPress and no plugins to update. Every product lives in one data file, and one command rebuilds the catalog, the product pages and the sitemap. Every old address redirects to its new page, each page has its own title, and text colours were checked for readability.
Built for a client, who owns the code and the content.
